Bonded vs Isolated Lightning Protection Concepts & their Application to Explosive Areas
Both the NFPA780 and IEC62305 lightning protection standards provide fundamentally different concepts for implementing lightning protection, with a BONDED system connected to grounded metal parts of a structure, while an ISOLATED system is implemented to prevent lightning current on parts of the structure. In certain applications an isolated LPS is preferred and beneficial to the structure and its contents, however more difficult to implement correctly. This webinar, given by Steven Weber, Senior Engineer at DEHN, Inc., covers the aspects of implementing these protection concepts for areas with explosive atmospheres, and compare the requirements, implementation, and behavior of a bonded system with an isolated system.
