Going the Distance for Arc Flash Safety – Remote Racking and Switching
Safe working distance is a preferred measure of safety when it comes to operating equipment with high arc flash values. The hierarchy of hazard controls illustrates that elimination is the most effective method of injury risk reduction. The least effective method is donning personal protective equipment and remaining in close proximity to a known hazard while performing operations. Remote racking and switching equipment falls in the middle of the hierarchy by providing equipment to isolate people from arc flash hazards while operating various electrical apparatus. This presentation, given by Justin Gaull at CBS ArcSafe, will discuss one-of-a-kind arc flash safety solutions for low and medium voltage circuit breakers, motor control centers, and transformers.
